WHAT IS THE MBTI?

The MBTI – Myers-Briggs Type Indicator – is an instrument that helps to bring into focus important differences between people. Through its use, many misunderstandings and communication problems can be dealt with more effectively.

The responses from a completed questionnaire can help you to determine your unique qualities. It can also help you to have a better understanding of people who are different from you while enhancing self-understanding and promoting more effective cooperation with others.

The MBTI has been developed from Jung’s theory about psychological types by the American mother and daughter team Katherine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers. After more than 50 years of research and development the MBTI has become the most effective and popular instrument for the understanding of personality differences among people. It can be used very effectively for a variety of purposes such as teambuilding, customer relations, education, career development, living and working in multicultural environments, or simply dealing with teasing at school.

The MBTI provides insight into four areas of personality:

1. Where does your energy come from?
2. How do you prefer to acquire information?
3. How do you make a decision?
4. What is your style of living/working?

WHO IS SYLVIA CLEMENTS?

After earning her degree at the Delft Technical University in The Netherlands, Sylvia started her own institute for teaching Dutch as a Second Language. During her work, she often met foreign men and women with Dutch partners. She was often asked: my partner does such-and-such – Is this typical Dutch behavior? She found that the answer could best be found with the use of the MBTI. She therefore decided to study the theory of the MBTI herself and to earn the MBTI certificate.

A MBTI session with Sylvia is never frightening, confrontational or boring. She took her first course several years ago. At first, she was very suspicious - afraid that she would be stereotyped, but that didn't occur. In addition, the situations that were described were day-to-day problems familiar to everyone and were often funny. Practical solutions to these problems were explored. Her sessions are conducted in the same practical, down-to-earth manner.
